The contract service fits farms that want to take staffing off their worry list for a year. It’s most commonly used during parental leave, sabbaticals, owner health breaks, and the kind of mid-term period when a farm doesn’t want to hire direct but also doesn’t want the variability of rolling relief cover.
Some farms use the contract service as a trial run before making a permanent hire — the worker joins LKL first, settles onto the farm, and if it’s a good fit, may move to direct employment at the end. That flexibility is built in.
